If you completed any of your qualifications outside of Australia, NESA considers you an ‘overseas qualified teacher’.
Example: If you’ve completed a Bachelor of Science overseas and a Master of Teaching at a NSW university, you are considered an overseas qualified teacher.
Are you eligible to apply?
To be eligible in NSW, you need to have completed qualifications comparable to an accredited Australian teaching degree:
- A 4-year teaching degree, or
- A 4-year qualification package, e.g. a combination of a non-teaching undergraduate degree and a graduate-entry/postgraduate teaching degree.
Your previous teaching experience does not contribute to your eligibility to apply for accreditation. Only your qualifications are assessed.
What you need to provide
To be ready to apply you need to gather and provide specific evidence, including proof of your English language proficiency, identity, and qualifications.
